On Monday afternoon we had our first consultation with Dr Stephan Volschenk at Vitalab in Johannesburg and we were very impressed. The clinic is massive and very fancy. Dr seemed lovely and very down to earth.
We explained our history and his first concern was why we had done ICSI when our first IVF we got 19 eggs and 12 fertilized, clearly fertilization isn’t a problem which made us think.
He did a scan and found 18-20 follicles which he said is what he would expect to see in someone my age so that was good. He thinks during my treatments my estrogen levels might be getting too high and hindering implantation so he has suggested the following:
– office hysteroscopy to check there is no scaring from my previous hysteroscopy when a septum was removed
– more blood tests for both of us
– fresh IVF cycle with low stims
– fertilize eggs and then go pgs testing on them
– freeze embryos, have a period and do an FET
This all makes sense and he says by doing pgs testing and this method it will increase success rate to 80%. Sounds amazing except that it comes with a R90,000 price tag which at the moment is completely out of the question. So incredibly desponding.
Feels like we are in a very dark tunnel and we still cannot see the end 😦
Anyway we met with financial advisors this week to see how we can raise the money. Praying for a massive natural miracle x
